Proper Preparations
Now You Are Ready For Ducklings!
Now that you have everything you need to care for ducklings, you can bring home the babies! The first few weeks of their life is the most important for socializing and getting to know your ducks. The better you know them the easier it will be to notice if something is wrong with one of them. Mysterious things do happen sometimes that are out of our control but if any questions arise, you can read books, online articles or forums. You will notice these ducklings grow very fast and will be full grown ducks before you know it.
When your ducklings are fully feathered, or at about 6-8 weeks old you can stop using the heat lamp. Around 6 weeks I will stop using the red bulb and use a regular lightbulb like one you would have in your house, and turn it off at night to help get them used to the day/night cycle. At 8 weeks they can go outside as long as it doesn't get too cold during the night. At about 4-6 months your ducks will be considered fully grown! They will be able to be switched to adult feed, try adult snacks, and even start becoming sexually mature and you will see the changes in the ducks and drakes.
